Leann: Which is why, for Craig's sake, we need to get them back on the phone.īrother: Miss Harvey, you've been on us for months. He's wanted Will to come clean about it for a long time, but. Leann: What did he hear? What did he mean by that?īrother: I don't know. We just don't know what or to what part the story was fabricated. The conversation was pretty vague and from the call of the veteran it seems like something did happen there since the veteran looked very upset and emotional. I don't think he ever admitted that outright. Said mistakes could easily have been a failure in research on any other show. TL DR version: Post apocalyptic stolen valor exposed because they made mistakes while trying to act like Marines. They took mistakes that most civilians wouldn't notice and turned them into plot points that military savvy viewers would pick up on, just like the veteran in the show. Watching the episode for the first time, I thought the mistakes being made by the Marines was just a case of the show writers failing to do their research on military customs and not caring enough to get it right when in fact, they did just the opposite. They went from town to town scamming people into giving them food and supplies. It turns out that they were imposters who overpowered marines and stole their uniforms. This sets off alarm bells for the veteran who explains to his family that he is certain these guys aren't Marines because a Marine would never say Hooah, which is an Army thing. The mayor, a retire Army Ranger, offers up a toast at the banquet, which many of the Marines cheer with a "Oorah" but one of them keeps shooting "hooah". Later the townsfolk throw a party in the Marines' honor, using up a lot of their emergency supplies since they think help is coming soon. One of the younger Marines calls a Gunnery Sergeant "sir". The locals immediately celebrate their salvation from the apocalypse but a few subtle hints are dropped that something isn't right. The Marines tell the townsfolk that the government is still functioning and reaching out to all the survivors to get civilization up and running again. (Underwood typewriters/Peachoids)ĭunno how much you are familiar with Jericho (spoilers obviously), but at one point, the town that's been cut off from civilization for months is greeted by a group of Marines showing up out of the blue with an Abrams tank.
